The Media-Asia Research Group at Curtin University of Technology had the privilege of organising the Asia Pacific Future's Research Network's (APFRN) signature event for 2006. In keeping with the 2006 APFRN theme, the conference was organised around questions of media policies and cultures and how the media are shaping our futures in Asia and the Pacific. Around 70 papers were presented by students, academics and media practitioners from Australia, Asia, New Zealand, Europe and America. We were also privileged to have two distinguished film directors from Asia, Shyam Benegal (India) and Garin Nugroho (Indonesia) at the conference to talk about their work and introduce their films at the screenings. Over 100 people attended the conference over the two and a half days.
